I never thought I would see this day come: cheese is officially a better option for you than butter.
In my pursuit of making the perfect pasta sauce I bought a container of Laughing Cow Creamy Asiago cheese wedges and had some leftover and am not one for waste, so..
I got to adding it to other things throughout the week, particularly on my French bread that I ate alongside the leftover pasta. I’m not one for plain bread (who is?) so I threw a few slices in the toaster and spread with one wedge of Laughing Cow over both slices – a delicious topping option which only cost me 35 calories. Let’s break it down:
Imperial Butter aka ‘Real Butter’
Country Crock Calcium Enriched Margarine
Laughing Cow Creamy Asiago Cheese Wedges
The numbers speak for themselves. For a smaller serving of either butter or margarine you’re looking at more calories, more fat and arguably much less flavor. You’re also getting a bit of protein from the cheesie alternative that neither the butter or margarine will provide.
A visual size comparison of one serving of butter and one serving of Laughing Cow:
Do yourself favor and ditch the yellow fat and stock that fridge with some low cal cheese – pics or it didn’t happen – #foodwinediy
